Honoring the Past with the Present

Baseball Stadium Brand Revitalization at Clear Lake High School

Embracing Change in a Time-Honored Tradition

Transition is never easy—especially when it involves changes in leadership. When a new coach steps in with fresh ideas and big shoes to fill, the very identity of a program can be put to the test. At Clear Lake High School, where baseball is more than just a game, change brings both challenges and opportunities.

A Legacy Built on Community and Tradition

Founded in 1972 with its first graduating class in 1973, Houston-based Clear Lake High School has long been home to the Clear Lake Falcons—a team supported by a faithful community. Baseball at Clear Lake isn’t merely a sport; it’s an institution. Legendary coach Bob Cobb, who took the helm in 1981, forged a Houston legacy over 18 memorable years. His passion, commitment, and profound impact on countless young players and fellow coaches led the community to honor his contributions by renaming the baseball stadium Bob Cobb Field when he retired in 1999.

Writing the Next Chapter

A New Era Begins

Fast forward to 2019, and the baseball program at Clear Lake is poised to embark on a new chapter under the leadership of Coach David Rogers. With an unwavering belief that "Baseball is in our DNA," Coach Rogers is ready to steer the Falcons into the future. He envisions a stadium re-branding project that will elevate both the team and its fans.

“At Clear Lake, Baseball is in our DNA. I look forward to working closely with my team and coaching staff to carry on the great baseball tradition here at Clear Lake and create a stadium that our team and fans deserve.”
— Coach David Rogers

Re-Branding the Stadium

The planned improvements for the stadium are extensive. The project includes a full branding treatment—bleacher backs, bleacher wraps, entry gates, dugout wraps, and other stadium structures will all reflect a refreshed identity. This isn’t just about a new look; it’s about celebrating the rich history of the program while inspiring future success. “We have a great group of kids who deserve a stadium to be proud of and we are going to make this happen.” Coach Rogers says.

Bringing Ideas to Life

With clear ideas in hand, Coach Rogers reached out to Sullivan360, a national leader in stadium branding. Having recently completed similar projects at Alvin High School and Shadow Creek High School, Sullivan360 was the perfect partner to translate the coach’s vision into reality.

“We wanted something that captured all of the traditional elements but had a fresh, bold, and tasteful approach. We wanted our team colors and Falcon mascot to be a prominent part of the design. As the new head coach, I wanted to make sure we paid homage to the baseball traditions at Clear Lake.”
— Coach Rogers

The Design Process and Execution

From Concept to Reality

The collaboration with Sullivan360 was marked by attention to detail. Virtual artist renderings of bleacher wraps, walkway wraps, and dugout wraps made it possible to visualize the new design. The challenge was significant: measuring and laying out an entire stadium leaves little margin for error.

“When you’re trying to measure and layout an entire stadium, it’s a big undertaking. There isn’t a lot of room for error. Balancing the printed and non-printed areas of the screen was crucial to achieve the proper mix of branding and backdrop.”
Coach Rogers

Once the renderings were approved, the production phase moved quickly. Fence screens were printed and installed on the bleachers, entry fences, and dugouts, transforming the stadium almost overnight.

Impact on the Community

The stadium re-branding has been nothing short of transformative. Positive feedback from student-athletes, faculty, and long-time fans has poured in. For Coach Rogers and his team, the project has reinvigorated the spirit of the program, deepening their appreciation for the Falcon baseball tradition.

“Projects like these aren’t easy, but they are important. It’s impossible to get things like this done without the support of the school, team, coaches, boosters, and the community.”
Coach Rogers

Ultimately, the project was more than just a new look—it was a tribute to the past and a beacon for the future. As Coach Rogers puts it, “We set out to create a new look, but what we really created was a wonderful tribute to the tradition, history, past, and bright future of Clear Lake baseball.”

A New Leadership Transition

The Next Chapter in Coaching

In August 2019, another significant change was announced. After leading the Clear Lake Falcons to the 6A bi-district playoffs, Coach Rogers was hired as the new head Baseball Coach in Pearland. Rogers, a Pearland resident, described the move as a “destination job” that promised both familiarity and opportunity.

As Coach Rogers embarks on this new chapter in Pearland, former University of Houston-Victoria Jaguar, Joshua “Spud” Bromberg has been named the new head Baseball Coach for Clear Lake. With five years of experience as a varsity assistant coach at Lamar Consolidated High School, Coach Bromberg is committed to building stability and lasting relationships within the program.

“The first thing I want to do is try and build some stability to the program. I want to get in and build some relationships and trust. They have had three different coaches in the last four years, and I want them to know that I am here to stay for a while.”
Coach Bromberg

Looking Forward

Texas baseball is rich with tradition, featuring great coaches and exceptional facilities. As the 2020 season approaches, the renewed spirit at Clear Lake stands as a testament to what can be achieved with vision, support, and collaboration.
